The studio was invited by CultureIn to work on the various possible applications of Varian : a composite fabric combining organic flax and bio-sourced resin in the furniture industry.

The studio was seduced by this French company that developed this ecological material : a unique and patented technology, allowing impregnation without water or solvent, to reduce energy consumption and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. Varian can be composted or recycled at the end of its life.

Our research was oriented towards a shape that highlights this new material properties. This particularities led us to draw a sail-inspired shape, using a simple folding technique. The textile and halftone resin aspect gives a soft texture, as well as a sound absorption quality. While the bio-sourced resin on the back-side allows the light source to be reflected and generates a diffuse light.

«Pli» makes the transition between sound and light, soft and rigid, woven and smooth.
